About the Funding Consortium
The Volunteering Action Plan contains a number of recommendations on volunteering in funding arrangements.
These include establishing a ‘funding consortium’ to discuss current practice and to work towards the development of funding arrangements that better value volunteering, such as requiring the impact of volunteering to be properly considered and measured.
- An initial session organised by Tricia Macfarlane (Impact Funding Partners) and Kath Brough (Cycling Scotland and Chair of Scottish Funders Forum ) took place early in 2023 January in Glasgow. This was well attended by a range of organisations with funding experience. The discussion was wide ranging and considered current practice and obstacles. Members of the Third Sector Unit at the Scottish Government also participated.
- The second session in October further considered Funding Standards. The agenda included sharing best practice examples of funding conditions which value volunteering and require measurement of impact of volunteering; consideration of some hot topics such as expenses; how to engage funders more widely in VAP; and the production of draft funding principles
- The learning from this event and the draft principles produced by the group are now being developed with a view to wider consultation with the Scottish Funders Forum and Scottish Grantmakers and a final workshop session early in 2024.
